Using Recoded Categories in Data Grids and Charts

How to define and select recoded categories in data grid and chart widgets in a step-by-step guide, including variable selection and visualization options.

Selecting Recoded Categories in the Data Grid Widget

1. Click the edit widget icon

2. Select a variable in the "value" field.

Note

The variable you select here defines what recoded categories are available.

3. Select Empty, Percent, Chart, Difference or Hierarchy.

4. Select the Break By option, which defines the availability of recoded categories. If you select a question with categories supported by default recodings, the option "recoded categories available" will appear.

5. Click the "Recoded categories" available text.

6. Select a recoding from the drop-down.

Defining Recoded Categories in a Chart Widget

1. Click the edit widget icon.

2. In the "value" field, select a variable.

   Note

   The variable you select here defines what recoded categories are available.

3. Choose a bar, line, or area chart.

4. From the Visualization drop-down, select either Stacked, Stacked 100%, or Clustered.

5. Select a Break By value, which determines the availability of recoded categories. If you choose a question with categories supported by default recodings, the option "recoded categories available" will appear.

6. Click the "Recoded categories available" text.
