Configure surveys for widgets in Forsta CDL. Add new surveys and data types. Forsta Genius text analytics can be included in reports.
When you create a new report based on a survey, the survey is automatically added as the default survey and its response table is made the default data source.
This streamlines the setup process for widgets and other items that use data, as they automatically use the default survey.
Adding Surveys
When creating a new report from a survey, it will automatically be added as the default survey. Additional surveys can be added or removed in the Data Sources panel.
To add new data sources from the Data Sources panel:
In the sidebar, click the Data Sources icon.
Click the plus + icon next to "Data Sources"
Add surveys by either dragging and dropping them or selecting them and clicking the + Add button.
Once you have made your selection, click the Apply button.
Once new sources are added, they will appear in the panel with the default alias "SurveyDataset" and the associated tables will also be visible. If there are loop questions in the survey, they will appear as separate tables.
The survey descriptions will be displayed in the following format:
Alias (public name) Survey Title
If the alias is the same as the public name, it will be displayed as "Public nameSurvey Title." The public name is usually the same as the Survey ID, but it can be edited in the hub. Assigning an alias to your survey allows for a more descriptive name and it will be specific to the report. This can be done by clicking the ellipsis next to the Survey name.
Assigning an alias
To change the public name, you must do it from the hub; note that if a data set is being referenced, it cannot be removed without first removing the references.
Text Analytics in the Data Panel
If text analytics is connected to a survey and added to the hub using the new pipeline, it will automatically be included in the survey's report. Data processed by the Forsta Genius text analytics application can be displayed in Studio reports, but the survey may need to be set up specifically to provide this data.
Adding a Custom Data Source
It is possible to add a custom data source through the Data Sources panel.
In the sidebar, click the Data Sources icon.
Click the plus + icon next to "Data Sources"
Click "Custom", next to "Surveys".
Add custom data by either dragging and dropping or by selecting them and clicking the + Add button.
Once you have made your selection, click the Apply button.
You will see custom data types beneath "Custom" in the Data Source panel.
Changing the Default Data Table
Note: Changing the Default Data Table only works with Custom Data Sets.
When importing custom data, the first table is selected as the default table. You can change the default table in the Data Sources panel by following these steps:
In the sidebar, click the Data Sources icon.
Click the name of the custom data source containing the data table you want to set as the default.
Hover over the data table you want to set as the default and click the ellipses icon .
Click "Set as default table".
Advanced Configuration
In CDL you can define defaults at the page and widget levels.
To learn how to do this, visit: Adding Multiple Data Sources in CDL
On a page
For a report utilizing multiple surveys, establish default surveys for specific pages for efficient widget setup.
On a widget
Widgets may require data to be defined in multiple locations, such as columns and tiles. In these cases, it can be useful to set a default on the widget level. However, it's important to note that the default is only a suggestion and can be edited.
Some widgets, like the Key Driver and Comments widgets, have the survey defined at the widget level, ensuring that all data displayed by that widget comes from that specific survey and cannot be changed.
