Variable Selectors

Selectors are used to make widgets dynamic in a data grid or chart. They allow users to extract variables and add them to the widget.

Overview

A Selector is a group of variables that you can apply to widgets to make them dynamic.

You can create Selectors from within the Data Grid and Chart widgets, and apply them to rows and columns.

Getting Started

1. Go to your chart or data grid widget.

2. Click the edit widget icon.

3. Locate the Break By field beneath the Rows or Columns sections (Data Grid) or the Category section (Chart).

4. Click the Expression Builder icon .

5. Click the Switch to Selector button.

Creating a New Selector

Tip: You can easily return to the previous menu where you started by clicking the Switch to Variable button.

1. Click "Create new" then the + Create Selector button.

2. Click the pencil icon to edit the name of the selector.

3. Select the Source you wish to extract variables from.

4. Select the Table you wish to extract variables from

5. Tick the boxes next to the variables you wish to add to the selector.

6. Click the + Add button.

7. Click the Create and Apply button when finished adding variables to your selector.

8. Enter a label by entering a name in the Label on widget field.

Selecting an Existing Selector

1. Click the Select existing button.

2. Pick a Selector from the drop-down

Editing an Existing Selector

1. Click the pencil icon next to the name of your selector.

Optional: Create a Copy of your existing selector to freely make changes without affecting other widgets.

2. Click the Edit button to edit your selector.

3. Click the pencil icon to edit the name of the selector.

4. Select the Source you wish to extract variables from.

5. Select the Table you wish to extract variables from

6. Tick the boxes next to the variables you wish to add to the selector.

7. Click the + Add button.

8. Click the Save and Apply button when finished adding variables to your selector.

Optional: Enter a label for how your selector looks in your widget by entering a name in the Label on widget field.

Note

Editing an existing selector will affect all widgets where the selector is being used.

Deleting an Existing Selector

1. Click the trash can icon next to the name of your selector.

2. Confirm you want to delete the selector by clicking the Delete button.

Note

Deleting an existing selector will permanently remove it from all widgets where it’s being used.
